URL QR code setup guide

Set up a website-link QR code in ScanOrbit: add the destination, optional UTM tags for Google Analytics, and change where it points any time after printing.

The URL type is the most versatile QR code you can generate: it can point anywhere on the web, and it is available on the Free plan alongside vCard, WiFi, Text, Email, SMS, WhatsApp, Phone, UPI Scan & Pay, Crypto and SEPA.

Setting one up

  1. 1Click Create and choose QR Code.
  2. 2Select Website URL from the type grid.
  3. 3Enter the destination URL, including the protocol (https:// or http://).
  4. 4Give it a descriptive name and an optional display label for quick dashboard reference.
  5. 5Click Create QR Code.

Changing the destination later

This is the core strength of a dynamic code: open it from your dashboard, edit the URL field, and save. The change takes effect immediately, and the printed QR code never needs to be reprinted. This makes dynamic URL codes ideal for storefront windows, packaging, or fleet vehicles.

Advanced features on Pro

  • UTM parameters: automatically append Source, Medium, and Campaign tags to every scan for seamless Google Analytics attribution
  • Password protection: gate access behind a secure verification screen
  • Expiry date: automatically pause the code once a campaign ends
  • Scan limit: deactivate the code after a designated number of redemptions
  • Custom slug: replace random short codes with branded URLs like scanorbit.app/r/my-brand
Check the UTM parameters guide and analytics guide to optimize campaign tracking.
