Setting up UTM parameters

Add UTM parameters to a QR code so Google Analytics 4 credits visits to the right flyer, poster or campaign. ScanOrbit adds the tags when people scan.

UTM parameters allow marketing analytics tools like Google Analytics 4 to attribute offline print traffic to specific campaigns, print runs, and collateral.

How UTM tracking works

ScanOrbit appends standard query parameters to your destination URL during the redirect phase (such as ?utm_source=flyer&utm_medium=qr&utm_campaign=spring_promo) without cluttering the physical QR code.

Supported parameters

  • Source (required): identifies the referrer or material (e.g., flyer, billboard, menu)
  • Medium (required): marketing medium, typically qr or print
  • Campaign (required): specific promotion name (e.g., summer_sale_2026)
  • Content (optional): differentiates variants or placements (e.g., front_desk vs table_tent)
  • Term (optional): optional keyword identifier for specific search or tag campaigns

Enabling UTM parameters

  1. 1Open any dynamic URL QR code (Pro plan required).
  2. 2Enable the UTM Parameters toggle under Advanced Options.
  3. 3Enter your Source, Medium, and Campaign values.
  4. 4Save the QR code.
Maintain consistent lowercase naming conventions (such as qr_print) across campaigns to prevent duplicate rows in Google Analytics 4 reports.
