Inserts & thank-you cards
QR Codes for Package Inserts and Thank-You Cards
An insert card is cheap to print and read at the best possible moment: right after the customer opens your product. A QR code on it is the link from that card to the next thing you want them to do, and the scan count tells you whether the card is pulling its weight.
Free plan: 3 dynamic codes, no time limit. Pro types free for 14 days, no card.

What the scans tell you
Every scan of a dynamic code is counted, with link previews and bots filtered out, so the numbers are people.
Insert response rate
Scans divided by orders shipped. Most brands have never measured it.
Which card wins
Print two card versions with their own codes and keep the one that gets more scans.
Repeat-purchase signal
A coupon code tied to one insert shows exactly how many reorders the card produced.
Timing
When scans happen tells you how long after delivery customers engage, which helps time follow-up emails.
Reported for every code: scans over time, unique vs total, country, US state and city, iPhone vs Android, operating system, hour of day and day of week, with CSV export and a weekly email report.
Printing it so it scans
- Business-card and postcard sizes both work; keep the code at least 0.8 in (2 cm) wide.
- Matte card stock scans more reliably than glossy, which can reflect light into the camera.
- Say what's in it for them next to the code: "Scan for 15% off your next order".
- Print one proof and scan it with an iPhone and an Android phone before the full run, in the lighting where it will be used.
Selling on Amazon or another marketplace?
Marketplaces have their own rules for inserts. Amazon, for example, doesn't allow inserts that ask only for positive reviews, offer incentives for reviews, or direct buyers to purchase off Amazon. Check your marketplace's current seller policies before printing.
Set it up
- Step 1
Pick the action
Review, reorder, register or learn. One action per card performs best.
- Step 2
Create one code per card version
That's what lets you compare versions in analytics.
- Step 3
Design and print
Download the code and drop it into your card design; keep it high-contrast.
- Step 4
Compare after a few weeks
Keep the card with the best scan rate and test a new challenger against it.
Frequently asked questions
How many people actually scan package inserts?
It varies a lot by product and offer, which is exactly why it's worth measuring. With one dynamic code per card version, you see your own rate instead of guessing.
Can I use one code for every product?
You can, but separate codes per product or card version tell you far more. They can all sit in one folder so the totals are still in one place.
What if the offer on the card expires?
Change the code's destination to the current offer. Cards already in customers' hands keep working.
Is it free?
Website-link codes are free (3 dynamic codes on the free plan). Coupon, feedback and form pages are Pro types, free for 14 days on the trial.
