Reed-Solomon error correction enables QR codes to recover data if part of the code is smudged, damaged, or covered by a logo.
The four error correction levels
| Level | Recovery Capacity | Recommended Use |
|---|---|---|
| L (Low) | ~7% | Clean digital screens and presentations |
| M (Medium) | ~15% | Standard print collateral (flyers, brochures) |
| Q (Quartile) | ~25% | Industrial packaging and high-wear environments |
| H (High) | ~30% | Codes featuring embedded logos or complex artwork |
Design considerations
Higher error correction levels increase the density of the module grid. For compact print sizes (such as business cards), Level M is often ideal to maintain module clarity unless a logo is present.
