QR Codes for Museums and Galleries

Wall labels have room for a title and a few lines. A QR code beside each object opens an audio guide, the curator's notes, a video or the label in another language, and the scans show which exhibits visitors spend time with.

Free plan: 3 dynamic codes, no time limit. Pro types free for 14 days, no card.

Analytics

What the scans tell you

Every scan of a dynamic code is counted, with link previews and bots filtered out, so the numbers are people.

Exhibit engagement

Scans per exhibit code show what visitors seek out.

Visitor flow

Scan times across galleries show how people move through.

Languages

Phone-language data shows which translations to add.

Where visitors come from

Local vs out-of-state visitors by city and state.

Reported for every code: scans over time, unique vs total, country, US state and city, iPhone vs Android, operating system, hour of day and day of week, with CSV export and a weekly email report.

Printing it so it scans

  • Next to the wall label, at least 1 inch (2.5 cm), matte so gallery lighting doesn't glare.
  • Number the codes or exhibits so visitors know which recording they're on.
  • Print one proof and scan it with an iPhone and an Android phone where it will be used before printing the rest.

Set it up

  1. Step 1

    Record short audio

One to three minutes per object.

  2. Step 2

    One code per exhibit

    Named by gallery and object.

  3. Step 3

    Print matte labels

Next to the existing wall labels.

  4. Step 4

    Use the data

Add depth where engagement is highest.

Frequently asked questions

Do visitors need headphones?

A sign suggesting headphones helps; audio plays in the phone's browser like any web audio.

Can we offer other languages?

Yes: a separate recording per language, or a page linking each one. Phone-language data shows which are needed.
